Title: Can Hep C be transmitted via semen?
Post by: d-boy86 on June 18, 2013, 10:47:57 pm
I'm just wondering. As discussed a few weeks ago I informed you all that I tested positive. However, I read that it couldn't be transmitted via semen. Is this true? I've been using condoms with my partner since I found out, and he's been tested for all STDs, but his doctor stated that since he's the "receiver" he has nothing to be worried about since Hep C isn't transmitted via semen.

I'm not sure how comfortable I feel about that.

Hep C is transmitted by blood only, but that can include rough sex if bleeding occurs.  So, take care.  Also don't share toothbrushes, razors and if you cut yourself take care with whatever made the cut.  I have had hep c for my entire 27 years of marriage, and my wife is clear.  Hope this helps.

aidsmap out of London put together a small PDF on how one can get hep C from sex.

I hadn't thought of sharing lubricants as a possible way to transmit it

My wife of more than 33 years is negative, not for the lack of trying.
