Hep a and b vaccines

I was wondering about the vaccines for hep A and B?

Have you taken them during treatment, did your Dr. Advise you to take them?
or did you have them before treatment?

It was one of the first things my doc recommended after I was diagnosed in 2007.  I followed his advice immediately.  Obviously, this was 8 years before treatment.

My doctor told me to get vaccinated while I was waiting to start Harvoni, so I have had two of the three shots so far.  I think I had one in January, one in February, (started Harvoni in April) and then the last one will be in August.

Over the past 12 years I have been told by 5 different gastroenterologists that I no longer need the Hep B vaccine. Last year by my Group Health doc, 4 years before by my Virginia Mason doc, and before that by my University of Washington doc. I believe that University of WA was involved in the Gilead testing.

I am going to ask my Gastro again.

It makes sense to get the vaccinations, but that is a good question regarding whether to get them while on Tx.

My doc recommended them to me after initial diagnosis in '08, but alas, I did nothing...

Sorry. I forgot to mention that I had Hepatitis B in 1984. My doctor says that I already have the anti-bodies so I do not need the vaccination. I have some Ribavirin "brain fog" so I sort of forget important information.

saw doc on 6/4 - next week blood test will be testing for a/b antibodies. If I need vaccine it will be done after vpak/riba treatment ends the beginning of august. Also suggested shingles vaccine after treatment. Don't know if this has anything to do with hep c virus. I already had a pneumonia vaccine due to chronic bronchitis so will just get a booster at age 65 (next year!)

Dearprudence. The Shingles vac is just for us old people.  I am getting mine after treatment is done on August. Those of us older folks (HAH) had chicken pox because there was no vaccine when we were kids. Shingles is caused by dormant chicken pox virus. My cousin and two of my friends have had Shingles...they were in severe pain and my cousin told me...get the vaccination. He was off work for over two weeks.

I am trying to decide about what to do about the shingles and chicken pox vaccines. I missed the chicken pox when I was a kid and was never vaccinated either like you say no vaccine back then.

I did have the pneumonia vaccine when I was 50 when I was diagnosed with cirrhosis and will be having the new pneumonia vaccine Prevnar13 when I get around to it.
