Thinking of India
« on: August 03, 2015, 09:12:03 pm »
Hi All,
Has anyone had any experience with traveling to India to seek treatment? Are there truly reputable providers there or is a a scam-filled scheme?
Thanks,
Coach

Hi
There is a really good story to read about a man that did just that.  I will try to find it and post the link to his blog.  He has a lot of useful info as well

Here is the link to another post on this forum. It includes the link to his blog http://forums.hepmag.com/index.php?board=32.0

Thanks Debula,
I found his blog.  Lots of good information there.  I have contacted a clinic in India, Artemis, and have been in correspondence with a doctor there. 12 weeks of sofubuvir and ribavirin is $2100.00 U.S.  There are doctor, clinic and lab fees, but it is all done in five days.  Follow up care at your own doctor in the U.S.
Now, I will wait for them to notify me when Harvoni becomes available, as I am Gen. 1a.
I will keep everyone posted.

Because in my country only available treatment is Pegintron+Riba, which I failed 3 months ago, India Harvoni generics are my only option too, concerning that I have two genotypes (1b and 4). For these genotypes Sovaldi+daclatasvir also works well, but getting generic daclatasvir is tricky. Can be ordered from China in powdered form, and then you need pharmacist to create capsules. Sounds complicated but if obtaining generic Harvoni fails I will definitely go for it.
I have also contacted some Indian clinics, and for example Keweenaw Health Solutions, would ship 3 months of Sovaldi+Riba supply for 1100$. They have also confirmed that Harvoni generics should be expected in December.

Right now I'm doing post treatment liver tests, and hope for the best, until meds arrive.

btw. Greg's blog is very helpful for all the people that cannot get modern treatments in a normal way. Big thumbs up for his effort.

If you're genotype 1a, have you thought about trying for the Viekira Pak/ribavirin Patient Assistance Program? Even if Harvoni is your insurance's "preferred drug," you can still apply for V-Pak/RBV and get it denied, then get an appeal denial, then submit an application to their Patient Assistance Program. However if you aren't ok with taking ribavirin and only want Harvoni India could be your best option at the moment. Also you can expect that whole denial process to take a few months, and I can't guarantee how long Abbvie will keep its Patient Assistance Program going (I noticed Bristol-Meyers-Squibb didn't even bother to start one for Daklinza)
