Since I stopped the ribas nearly 3 weeks ago I have been feeling better. Undetected made me feel mentally well and I think you cope with sxs better when you feel happy. But yes, I have a clearer brain and more energy.

Watch out for a UTI with that burning wee. I had a UTI and was on anti biotics for it for half my tx. Cal

Yes it's super doper scary,
But you can do it. I too, keep my family in mind and remind myself constantly if them. My youngest has asked me the same question. They need our reassurance, they're used to supermom!
After 2 weeks you will start to clear in the brain and you'll see subtle changes. It us so worth it. They will get a supermom back 100!fold!

im relaxed for right now so I have 5 days till tx begins med del will be on monday so will start on tues morning any advice on foods that have helped you all when dosing meds ? Alsohow muchbwater should I be drinking a day and how much Iis too much

i dont know why but I been extremely tired lately I dnt knw if its my body saying hey super mom lets catch up on some sleep for our journey ahead

Supermom,
The only thing you can control about this treatment are the times you take the pills. Eg I did 7-7.30 am and pm. Take with food. Ribas are best absorbed with fatty food, like cheese, yogurt, or whatever you're eating for dinner . You can control your water intake, ribas dry you out so plenty of water. Don't drown yourself , but drink plenty. Have a bottle with you always. Rest when you need to, but if you can maintain exercise good. Sleep is important, ribas can upset sleep, so don't be afraid to ask your GP for sleepers. Check first to make sure any drug you take is allowed on the regime. Wash with a soap free wash. I use Aveeno wash. Moisturise as many times a day as you need, I use Aveeno again.
Above all keep posting and let us support you through this. You can do this you're a supermom! Cal

I think because of the problem of riba drying the skin and hair and tissues of body so much. I just continued to use soap. But I do know about the drying effect of riba. My hair got very dried out during and post-tx - like a haystack, even with me gobbing coconut oil onto it. And my lips were very chapped and often split from being so dry. Those problems have disappeared now that I am several months post-tx.

QUESTION:

Has anyone on Harvoni experienced tingling in their legs? My right leg has a bit of numbness and tingling at the shin and not sure if it's a side from from Harvoni.

I am a cyclist so I cannot rule out some odd anomaly from cycling.

Any one heard of sim symptoms?

Guitarplayer, I was slammed around 2/3 weeks with fatigue. I was so tired, like you lying on the lounge was about all I could manage. I picked up after the first month and motored through the rest of it.

I think the fatigue really shows up more right the beginning as the meds are saturating our systems and kick our immune system into overdrive.It only lasted about 2 weeks or so with me and then slacked off.I'm at the point now that the reason I'm tired is because I'm not sleeping.I've had insomnia since the service so it's hard for me to say if it's me,or it's a sx.

Hi Matt,
The soap free thing is because, soap druse out the skin, taking away the natural oils. Soap free washes leave the oils there.your skin will get dryer it's just the nature if the ribas, the dry you out. water is important as is moisturising. Lip balm is a must too as Kim said it cracks the lips.
I'm over 3 weeks post ribas and my skin is still scaly but is not cracking. It's slightly itchy but I am not scratching as much. Cal

The drugs do their best work in the first few weeks of tx. The ribas drop your HB in the first and second week, so you could be going into anaemia. If it gets too bad, get a full blood count done and see if you need a RIBA adjustment I did. Then I went back on higher dose when it was a but better. Some people on the forum (chuck I think) had some special injections so he could stay on the ribas but address the low HB. Good luck! Watch tv and rest up. Cal

Hi Matt,
I had a resting heart beat of around 100 during the ribas days, especially in the first few weeks. That's when the HB drops a lot. It's another sign you could be anaemic. So don't push yourself too hard. Glad you feel better though.

Ate fruit and cheese sandwich
Took my meds 7:30 am
No side effects
Went about my day ate lunch with hubby within 15 mins of eating. I started itching like I rolled around in fiber glass lol

But my ? Is how far apart should my meds be taken is 12 hrs 10 hrs etc any help would be great thx

Supermom its getting better im on day 12 I believe n the anxiety that came around day five seems to be subsiding... that was the only side I had.. I didnt get the itching guess I got lucky on that one but im happy for u that youve started I was very anxious waiting on mine n its been almost two weeks now.n its flew... I get my labs done monday but unfortunately ill have to wait till week four to find out my viral load so counting down to that now.

Lucky you no itching im on day 2 and Im feeling not to swell bearable but feeling yucky my stomace hurts like someone got a wrecking ball and hit me in the tummy tired itching and I noticed my heart was beating kinda fast

Hello tx is up and down its def taking a toll on my body today is 1 week into tx and I can say its kicking my butt im really just taking it a day at a time thats all I can do im def getting jaundice my whiyes of the eyrs are yellow skin is red im fatigued my body hurts and the list goes on and on

Sorry the sxs are getting harder. Those yellow eyes could be increased bilirubin. Check your Liver results. If the Doctor hasn't picked up on it then point it out to him. Just to keep an eye on it. I know Phily and Marianne both had increased bilirubin with yellow eyes. You're doing great my friend. Cal

nice work guitarplayer! Supermom I found Weeks 2 and 3 horrible. My was exhausted and my eyes were yellow. It's not uncommon for highly increased bilirubin to be part of this treatment, but it usually normalises by week 4. The riba is kicking your butt. You'll probably find your hb is low too.

Your dr might want to reduce your ribavirin dose, mine did. I ended up on only 2 riba tabs each day - 1 morning and night. Despite that massive drop, from 5 to 2, I still cleared.

thanks so much I still have not got a copy of blood work yet im hanging in there the best I can question how many of you all have experienced weight loss and if so how much weight loss

the itching has been real today grrrrr I was told drinking coffee was good for my liver

But I can say this it has helped with my energy level started with a slight cough on and off muscle aches emotional etc

I just keep thinking 11vweeks to go

I lost weight Super Mom, about 5kg quite early on. It stabilised and I stayed 5kg under my starting weight all the way through. I've sinceputit back on. I was a bit underweight during treatment, now perhaps a kilo or two over what I like.

If things get too much with tiba sx, and most of these are, talk to your dr about your ribavirin levels and what can be done about them.

Yep I lost 3 ks in first 2 weeks and stayed off until about week 8 when I suddenly became a bottomless pit! I have put back on all weight plus 1 extra K. Like Phily I was a bit underweight anyway.
Are you on an anti histamine for itching? I still take them post tx. They work. SO do check with the Doc about that.
Everything else sounds on target sxs wise. If the cough is dry it's the ribas. Good on you, you'll get there! Cal

I'll have a read now (in fact I just read week one and two). It's just what I need right now. This morning I slept in for one hour after I was due to take the tablets and tonight, I spontaneously called in to see a friend in Melbourne, and was just agreeing that it would be great to go out to eat when I looked twice at my clock and gasped- I was meant to take my pills in one hour and I live at least 90 minutes away. Hmm, I need to take that tip about packing spare tablets in my bag seriously. How much leeway do we really have with the time of day we take them??

Quite a bit of leeway. Don't panic. I never missed a dose, EVER. But I was late for a few. I always kept two days Worthing handbag, just in case. I figured two days would get mouton trouble.

I also set a reminder on my phone and had a medicine app that reminded me - I had to manually tap a reminder to turn the alarm off and indicate I'd taken the tablets. It was a useful reminder. AND THE PILL BOX! That pic box saved my bacon more than once.

Update my wife was hospitalized in need of blood transfusion from treatment. She fell faint and also severely dehydrated I'm confused she been drinking half a gallon or more of water. She's been doing everything to a T except resting she's been on the go 247 also side effects from medication has anyone had to be hospitalized due to complications on treatment

I know of people who have been quite sick as a result, but generally stuff like rising alt and bilirubin. I think it's important to know your limitations and not push yourself too hard. I do hope everything stabilises soon. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Super mom's hubby, thanks for the update. Because I was on a different medication (Harvoni), I don't have an answer to your hospitalization question, but I did post it to another thread and included the link to this thread, so I hope some answers will come soon.

It's amazing how much water these meds guzzle. Also, I've read posts where people had to have their ribavirin dose reduced because of side effects.

I'm sure you're right that Super mom "has been doing everything to a T except resting." I'll bet you were already trying to convince her that she doesn't have to be Super mom while on treatment. Please let her know that we here on the Hep forums hope she'll take it easy from here on out! She can always celebrate Christmas in July.

To answer your question re the commonness of blood transfusions, yes, it happened fairly frequently with ribavirin + interferon (interferon would contribute to about 10% of loss in red blood cell manufacture). But, it does happen, esp if someone started out with a low hemoglobin in the first place.

What I wonder about is if Super Mom carries the gene for ribavirin-induced anemia sensitivity. It isn't tested for but obliviously she is tested. I hope her hep doc is aware of what is going on - sometimes these ER visits fall through the cracks, esp over the holidays

I was on Viekira and Ribas and was hospitalised in the second week for sodium loss. I drank too much water because I was dehydrated by the ribas, but my existing illnesses needs a balance of sodium and potassium. I was in for 4 days. My Gastro came to the hospital immediately so they would give me my Viekira and ribas and worked with them to make a fluid plan. All through tx I was either low sodium or dehydrated. I was extremely anaemic but did not require a blood transfusion just an adjustment of the ribas. It is something that happens on ribas and some get a blood transfusion. It sounds so drastic I know, your poor lovely wife. So sorry for you. Especially over the Christmas break. I was in hospital for Christmas 4 years ago due the ifn and riba treatment. I know how it feels to be out of control and away from the family. So sorry for you all. Please keep posting with news. Cal

Hello everybody sorry it's been forever I have had several complications due to tx was in the hospital for almost a month. Dr's appts etc. Just been regaining. Strength. .

Thank you everyone for your prayers I definitely felt them. I have 3 weeks left. On this tx and I'm ready for it to be over. How's everyone

Welcome back Super Mom.Sorry to hear it hit you so hard,but I'm glad you're doing better.I think all of us are glad when it's over,especially those that are having problems with it.You'll make the next 3 weeks and I hope they're uneventful for you.I got to EOT on the 8th of January so I only have another 8 weeks to find out if I SVR.For some reason my brain scrambled a bit for a few weeks after I finished but I'm a lot better now.I feel confident I made it and I'm feeling good about it all.I'm so glad you're feeling better.Let us know how it's going.

Super mom, thank you so much for checking in. You've been missed, and we were worried. What a rough ride you have had! I hope the Viekira and Ribavirin are accomplishing their objective of getting rid of the HCV.

Quite a few of us have made it to SVR12 (still virus-free 12 weeks after the end of treatment). Some of us who had an easy time on Harvoni are having a rougher time after treatment, but nothing like what you have gone through.

Looking forward to celebrating the end of your treatment soon.

We're waiting for you at the finish line Guitarplayer.They didn't do a 2 week lab on me but I have a feeling I had been undetectable at that point.I had more kidney pain with it but I'm sure it was a stone.I did have confusion(very mild)after my EOT but that's all gone now.The waiting that last week of tx damn near killed me but you're going great.Congratulations.

I've never been normal so I'm not sure what it feels like.

I admit I didn't get hammered after the end of tx. I don't remember feeling significant;y better or worse, just the same, more or less. I'm now 5 mothins post treatment cessation and I still feel pretty okay, but I'll bet my platelets are still crappy and my INR not great.

I've noticed that like with the sxs everyone is different.It looks like some are going to take longer for the healing process than others.I think you'll be like me and get over it fairly quickly.I also think that everyone needs to remember that some of the health problems could have been in the works even it they hadn't treated.The HCV did a lot of damage to a lot of us,especially for those that had it for years.I'm not a doctor but in my opinion this virus did a lot more damage to us than just the liver.Take it for what it's worth.
