By "They," do you mean your local lab? If they will be sending your sample to Quest or LabCorp or someplace similar, perhaps your local lab can give you a contact phone number for the lab that actually runs the test.

It's all good. The sample is going to a specialty house that does genetic testing.  Focus Diagnostics. Will take 2 weeks.

doubt you would need to fast that is more for sugar levels if testing for diabetes or for cholesterol

https://labtestsonline.org/understanding/features/test-prep/

Examples of some common laboratory tests that require advance preparation include:

Glucose tolerance, fasting, and two-hour post-prandial blood glucose tests: fasting or eating meals at specific times may be required.
Serum lipids (triglycerides, cholesterol, etc.): fasting for 9-12 hours is usually required.
Fecal occult blood test: certain food and/or medication restrictions may be required.
Cortisol: resting before sample collection may be required and, if a saliva sample is to be collected, it may be necessary to refrain from eating, drinking, or brushing teeth for a period of time prior to the test.
Genotype 1a
1978 contracted, 1990 Dx
1995 Intron A failed
2001 Interferon Riba null response
2003 Pegintron Riba trial med null response
2008 F4 Cirrhosis Bx
2014 12 week Sov/Oly relapse
10/14 fibroscan 27 PLT 96
2014 24 weeks Harvoni 15 weeks Riba
5/4/15 EOT not detected, ALT 21, AST 20
4 week post not detected, ALT 26, AST 28

Here is the test they are doing.

I fasted. I took some food with me to eat after the test. When in doubt, fast. LOL
