Post by: Hippo on August 22, 2015, 12:26:34 pm
How does beer interact with the success of harvoni.  Facts please not opinions.  Thank you.

Hi Hippo,
Since Harvoni is such a new drug, there is no definitive research either way. Because of this, and, to error on the side of caution, I would recommend abstaining from alcohol during treatment.

I would talk to your doctor about this.

Best wishes, Mike

Lynn, I believe that site is referring primarily to Olysio interactions, not specifically Harvoni.  It's misleading because it lists both, but if you check other interaction sites re Harvoni and Milk Thistle, I dont believe youll find a connection.

Hippo,
This is not factual but take it for what it's worth. Giliad did not have any data on alcohol and Harvoni. As far as I know, there is no direct evidence one way or the other with it interfering with the way Harvoni works to clear the virus. Here is what my doc told me about taking different things while on Harvoni. He said No, it doesn't interfere with the Harvoni directly but when one is trying to rid the body of a virus or disease it is best to have all organs functioning at the highest level they can to rid the virus. The liver being one of the most important organs while doing this. Alcohol makes the liver not function at its highest capability while ridding itself of the alcohol consumed. Whether it's 2 hrs for one drink or a whole day for a 12 pack.

oops Dragon you are correct. I googled Harvoni interactions guess it pays to read the whole article thanks!

Still though I would think we would want to err on the side of caution while treating and just don't take anything we don't have to and never without our doctors agreement.
