Title: Harvoni and Metformin
Post by: Becca on March 08, 2016, 08:27:48 pm
I am currently on Metformin for insulin resistance.  I've seen a lot of people posting about carb cravings and weight gain while on Harvoni.  Has anyone had experience with being on Metformin while taking Harvoni?  Did the Metformin keep you from craving carbs and gaining weight?

I've only been on Harvoni for five days, so no help with the combo you mention. I'm also on metformin, though, and I think I can safely tell you that it does not do much of anything at all to curb carb cravings. It'll keep you out of some of the trouble succumbing to those cravings cause though. I hate to tell you this, but in my case at least the only thing that works to avoid refined carbs (sugar) is willpower.  :(

I have been on Twinvir (Bangladesh Harvoni) now for 10 weeks.  I have not noticed any increase in carb cravings, I ALWAYS crave carbs.  Fighting that craving is the issue, if I give in, I crave worse.

I think that we are finding out that high sugar carbs are our worse enemy and in any health care regimen, resisting them is the best tactic.  Especially with Adult Onset Diabetes being so prevalent in the country, the low fat industry has helped this along by substituting sugar in low fat products to boost the taste.  So eat more nuts, protein, and stay away from the carbs, you will find the need for your Metformin to decrease as your weight goes down.
