Higher alkaline phosphatase (ALP) with Harvoni?
« on: December 27, 2015, 08:12:33 pm »
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else has seen raising ALP levels in their blood work as the Harvoni treatment continued. I know ALP is in relation to detecting liver disease so mine was obviously higher being that I am stage four cirrhosis.

Before treatment, my ALP levels were around 150. At 4 weeks it went up to 180 and now at 8 weeks it is 220. Normal range is roughly 45-129.  I am getting worried that although Harvoni is curing my virus is it damaging my liver even more?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or experienced similar ALP increase?

Thanks!
Param

Param, no, my ALP went down: 183 before Tx, 139 after 4 weeks of Harvoni, 119 after 9+ weeks of Harvoni. (For the first two results, normal = 45-117; for the 119, normal = 33-165.) But Harvoni seems to affect different people differently.

Here's what http://www.yourfuturehealth.com/a.html says:
"Alkaline Phosphatase
"An enzyme found in all body tissue, but primarily in bones, bile ducts and the liver. A high level may indicate bone, liver, or bile duct disease. Some drugs may also cause increased levels. Expected values are usually higher for children, pregnant women, those with gallstone conditions or in cases that involve damage to the bones or liver."

What does your doctor say about these increases?
