Sugar Cravings
« on: September 23, 2014, 02:52:30 pm »
Hi, I was just wondering if any of you all have been having cravings for sweets. Im on week 8 and this has been going on for the last two weeks. Its all i think about when i think about eating.  I am a big fruit eater and have always been but it's not curbing the thoughts.  My sugar has been up at each lab and maybe that can be it. Idk just wondering if anyone else is obsessing over sweets!

I had some cravings for sweets when on treatment. I even bought a couple of Twinkies.

Grab some comfort food, in moderation of course. I haven't heard any harm from eating sweets while on treatment (and I'm a diabetic).

Best wishes, Mike

:) I too crave sweets. And I have never been one to eat sweets. I mean I want them all the time. Ice cream, cup cakes, candy etc. Not only is my liver swollen but I am also gaining weight. I try drinking more water but still I want sweets. What does anyone suggest?

I think sugar is a dangerous substance for humans, and one that I succumb to occasionally. If you can avoid it, do. I think water and gentle exercise are great. So is caffeine, humor, and short naps. Above all, get enough sleep.

As for eating Twinkies Mike, what is said on the forum, stays in the forum.:)

I found that if you have a masticating juice machine, using celery mixed with your favorite combo (apple,beet..etc) and having a cup or two a day, can reduce sugar cravings substantially. If you have something like a vitamix, a smoothie can work too, but a juicer is more effective.

I have both and I'll give it a whirl, so to speak.

I find that making a fruit smoothie with almond milk keeps the craving away.

Historically, I am a 'salt' craver, not sweets.  But, during treatment this has changed.   I can't eat salty stuff (popcorn, triscuits, etc) because it is abrasive to my mouth.  Plus, Salt retains water, and I'm drinking a gallon of water a day.  So, I, too, have  been eating more sweets.  Ice cream and yogurt have moved into the refrigerator.
