Bells Palsy And Harvoni
« on: November 30, 2015, 10:55:22 am »
Hello all. I recently went through successful treatment for hep c-1a with Harvoni. Midway through the treatment I contracted Bell's Palsy and was wondering if this was a common side effect or just one of those things. The facial paralysis is still quite evident despite a treatment regime with an antiviral and prednisone. Any info on this or if there's anyone who's had a similar experience would be appreciated.

Welcome, Bill. Glad your treatment was successful but sorry you're dealing with Bell's Palsy. The only person on these forums with it was on interferon. However, a Google search does turn up one person on Harvoni who got Bell's Palsy during treatment: http://www.drugs.com/comments/ledipasvir-sofosbuvir/harvoni-for-chronic-hepatitis-c.html  If you aren't "Rmid" (the author of that 11/26/15 Harvoni review), then you have company. Hard to know whether it was the Harvoni or, as you say, just one of those things. It's still worth reporting it to Gilead and the FDA, because without data they can't detect trends.

I also found an article about Bell's Palsy being associated with HCV before treatment, and it was definitely associated with interferon treatment.

Thank you for the kind welcome. The Bell's Palsy is not really worth worrying about, but I was just curious as both are virus related.

HI Bill. And welcome! :) I don't know much about Bell's Palsy (although I do know someone who had it). What virus is it related to?
