Title: What to do after the 12 weeks on Harvoni? (Doctor's appts, blood tests, etc?)
Post by: Roger on January 12, 2015, 04:33:24 pm
I am going to send my hepatologist an email regarding what we are suppose to do at the end of my 12 weeks of Harvoni.  I would love input here, please.

What "should" he do for me?  What should I be sure he is going to do?

Should the blood test be as extensive as the FibroSure blood test?
I'd like to know how "everything" looks, not just viral load.

If all I need is the blood test and no sit down with him, great - otherwise,
what should one expect if there is a sit down meeting?

I'd also like to talk about a future followup schedule.  Ideas on this anyone?

Thanks!

 Hi Roger,

You want to have the same tests that you had when you started treatment. Complete liver panel, viral load and CBC count.

Best wishes, Mike

I have not had a sit down with my doctor since before treatment.  I will not be actually seeing him until one week after my 3 month blood work is done…his reasoning is that what will be discussed or not, will be based on the results.  If all is still good, and I am SVR, not sure I see him again.  My primary can pick-up with checking when he does yearly blood work …….. they are in same network anyway.

I will be seeing my doctor what would be my regular scheduled date had I not been treating with Harvoni so sometime in June which will be 1 month after I finish the 24 weeks. Otherwise I am on an annual cycle of doctor visits 6 months for blood tests and abdominal ultrasounds

I finished Harvoni on January 7 and see my Hepatologist on January 28, 2015.   That's when he wanted to see me.

Otherwise I see him once a year, do my bloodwork 2x a year  and a yearly abdominal ultrasound.

Still waiting on 12week great news of undetected!  It's coming I know it!  :D

I did see my gastro/hepato once a year to monitor the hepc prior to treatment and that is why once cured I am not sure if I will still do this.  It may be redundant if I see a primary yearly and only more often if I am sick or have an issue.  He is the one that referred me to the gastro re the hepc over a decade ago.  I dpi know there will be blood work re viral load at 6 mos then again 1 yr from treatment.  I assume this will all be discussed this March when I see him.
Looks like doctors are not all on the same page when it comes to this - ha. I guess they are learning too……...

The reason I will still be seeing my hepatologist so often and having the tests every six months is because even if I beat hep c this time I still have had cirrhosis for 7 years now so will still need to be closely monitored for complications of cirrhosis.

But still great to know what is left of my liver will not be under attack so my liver might be able to heal or at least not get any more damage.

The liver is an amazing organ and is known to be able to regenerate………..so it can definitely do some healing.  Positive thinking is also fuel for the body to heal.
