Post by: unhappycamper on March 29, 2012, 01:48:05 am
okay does anyone else have osteoporosis and osteomalacia due to liver damage.i was diagnosed in 1990 for hep c. i am in 1st stage cirrohsis now. i was told i have absorption problems due to liver.i have problems with any vitamins.i had one jerk dr. tell me to go to a tanning bed everyday and get vit d that way.i'm a redhead, and my dad was and had skin cancer.needless to say i don't see that dr. anymore.all together i have 7 diseases right now.the only meds i take right now are a half of a tramadol every 6 hrs.my liver dr. told me its the lesser of evils for me.they are finally gonna send me to a rheumatologist saying they will help me figure a way to get vitamins into me.been to soooo many drs.i hope this one helps.the pain i get from the osteomlacia is so terrible.sometimes i wake up screaming and can barely walk.just wondering if anyone else has these issues.

Unhappy:

I'm very sorry to hear about the bone problems! Low bone mineral is a common problem for people living with chronic infections like hepatitis C -- you're definitely not alone in this!

It's good you're meeting with a specialists about this. Because you're dealing with osteoporosis and osteomalacia -- which have some overlapping and some different causes -- it's definitely a good idea to consult with a health care provider who will know how to manage the conditions and to work around your other diseases and limitations.

One thing you'll definitely want to make sure is that your doctors are talking to each other -- make sure the rheumatologist consults with your liver doctor after your appointment, so that they can work together to come up with good solutions for you.

When is your rheumatology appointment???

GOOD LUCK!
