Title: Local Dentist Spreading Hepatitis
Post by: diannastarr on April 02, 2013, 01:28:10 pm
Hep Blogger Karen Hoyt just posted a blog about a dentist in Tulsa that may have exposed over 7,000 patients to hepatitis and HIV. That's insane. No where is safe. Most I ever worried about catching was a cold from the woman cleaning my teeth who can't stop coughing.

I often wondered if that isn't where I got my hep from. That dentist is gone, my tooth hasn't stopped giving me problems.

HepC53, I thought maybe I had shortest known HepC tour, but I see you got me by 3mos.
I just saw my long time dentist and told him I'd been diagnosed HepC and cured HepC since my last visit.  The hygienist then changed my next appt time, you know, to be safe. Huh??  WTF does that mean?  Funny, now I'm tested and know I don't have HepC and now they treat me different?
I'm curious how you became aware you had HepC.  Seems you 'bout have to have liver failure for anyone to notice.

You're right, HepC is known as one of those silent killers. I had my first 911 ride was told I had colitis. When I went to see a gastro doc they did a Hep test; didn't even tell me. I guess if you're from the boomer generation you're a prime candidate for the disease. Post hep, I am to get my liver checked every 6 months because we are more likely to get liver disease/cancer I guess. So yea, is this a cure?  I have been through two Esteticians that can't seem to ever fit me in anymore. I guess you don't tell people cured or not. Reading Italian medical data they call it "remission ".  Hmmm...

The fear is understandable.  It's not logical, but its understandable.

It's not the people that know they have the virus, and can tell them, that they have to fear - its the millions of others that dont know, and cant tell them, that are the problem for them.

People like that need a new career path, imho.  I tell every dental and medical staff I come in contact with that I have the virus.  Except for maybe 1 young dentist (who wanted a paper from my primary doctor stating it was safe to work on me - Im not sure if that was out of a concern for my health as she claimed, or a concern for hers.  No other dentist before or since has made such a request), no one has given me a problem about it.

If its possible, keep looking.  There are rational professionals out there that know how to protect themselves, and know they should be doing so with every patient they encounter.

HCV isnt the only virus out there that can be spread by blood to blood contact.  There are much worse dragons back in the den.

Hi Cure Seeker, I see we are the exact same age and you are having the same treatment. I want to be there for you the best I can. As soon as I have time I'll figure out how to private message you. It's a pain through my phone.  Drink lots of water, walk/exercise even though it'll be hard to even get moving some days. Blessings
