Title: Possible transmission of HCV from reuse of gloves
Post by: Pacho on May 26, 2013, 10:57:18 am
Good morning
Ive been worried because when I was getting blood drawn I noticed that the gloves of the nurse had red spots on them, at first I didn't pay attention because I was told a few years ago in that same lab that they use a red pencil for something i don't remember, and It may cause those stains that look like blood, but still you can't never be 100% sure. My question is, if the nurse was reusing gloves and they had blood on them was I at risk of being infected with HCV? I know I wasn't at risk of HIV because a few minutes passed between the previous patient and me, but what about HCV? She didn't touch the needle as far as I remember but she may have touched the wound when she cleaned it. Thank you for your answers (please only answer if you really know what you are saying lol)

The risk would be very remote, but theoretically,if she touched the needle with her hands, it is possible, but very unlikely.
