Title: Question about differences in Geneotypes
Post by: Dreamer on August 08, 2013, 06:54:09 pm
I was diagnosed as Geneotype 1, but I've noticed that some people say they are Geneotype 1a. Is Geneotype 1 and Geneotype 1a two different Geneotypes or are they both the same one? If they're different, I'm wondering in what way?

Genotypes have subtypes. Genotype 1 is broken into 1a and 1b, and although they are both genotype 1, they are slightly different from each other. If you can find your lab test, it should say if you are 1a or 1b.

Thanks for answering my question. I found my lab test and the results just say Geneotype 1. I don't how common it is for labs to stop there instead of determining if it's a or b.

I don't think it is that common. Ultimately, it doesn't matter terribly much since treatment decisions are the same for both. You might need to differentiate if you were going into a clinical trial, but in that case, they'd probably redo the test.

Thanks again. I've been wondering about that for a long time and now I can quit stressing over it. :)
