Title: Pregnant with Hepatitis C
Post by: iana5252 on January 10, 2014, 09:43:19 am
Angela asked Hep Blogger Connie Welch...

"I've been worried because I'm pregnant and tired all the time, so I really need some info on ways to keep me going and to get my health better."

Connie wrote back...
Thank you for writing and sharing with me. Glad you found the information helpful.
You mentioned you were pregnant. If you are pregnant and diagnosed with Hep C, be sure to tell your current OB physician as well as any other physicians you are seeing.

As for treatment for Hep C. It is not advised to do treatment while you are pregnant or even 6 months after your pregnancy. The treatment meds are very strong and can have adverse effects on your baby. So be sure to talk to your doctor....

I had my son while having Hep c . I was 14+ years into the disease then . I had a midwife group .To have them I had to see infectious disease at the same time . My viral load at the beginning was 27,000 at the end 43,000. I ate lots of dirt and meat ,as I was a vegetarian for 6 years prior . I was freaked out tired the whole time , I walked in the mornings ,took step aerobics until about 7 months and lifted weights until I gave my self a bellybutton hernia.I did continue to walk the whole time .
I owned a busy hair salon then (and for 8 years of my sons life) .I worked long hours daily until my water broke . I was getting ready for work when that happened . I took 2 weeks off and went right back to work with my son.I now work at home.
My son is a type one diabetic, from what I read may have direct correlation to hep c.
TMI probably . my advice eat well, rest when you can ,exercise and work as hard as possible as long as possible . Inactivity may not do justice for you even if you feel like being inactive.of course follow doctors orders not mine!

I had, have the hep c gen 3 while pregnant with my two children. (Unknowingly) both of my sons were born virginal births. They have both been tested and are negative with no diabetes or allergies.

Hope this helps....

I had a child naturally while having hepc and she is fine.  Been tested as an adult by military and perfectly healthy, negative to all heps and/or health issues.
Everything will be fine....................

I did all those things also as when I had my daughter they did not know that NonA/NonB was hepc  then.  Daughter a lot of  my stuff and so did her father and no one got anything from me.  As long as blood is not exchanged the chance is extremely small.  I even breast fed for the full 12 months.

Hi Mia

Here is some info from the Center for Disease Control Hepatitis C Information for the Public

http://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/c/cfaq.htm

What is the risk of a pregnant woman passing Hepatitis C to her baby?

Hepatitis C is rarely passed from a pregnant woman to her baby. About 6 of every 100 infants born to mothers with Hepatitis C become infected with the virus. However, the risk becomes greater if the mother has both HIV infection and Hepatitis C.

Can Hepatitis C be spread within a household?

Yes, but this does not occur very often. If Hepatitis C virus is spread within a household, it is most likely a result of direct, through-the-skin exposure to the blood of an infected household member.

What are ways Hepatitis C is not spread?

Hepatitis C virus is not spread by sharing eating utensils, breastfeeding, hugging, kissing, holding hands, coughing, or sneezing. It is also not spread through food or water.

Hope that helps I just selected a few but read the link and please com back with any questions

Congratulations on your soon to arrive baby

wishing you all the best
