Hi Polly,
Thank you for diving in and introducing yourself. I just did that treatment and I am 60 - I know someone who did well and she is almost 80. These new treatments are much easier. It was my 3rd treatment, and by far the easiest, and I am now hep C free. There are lots of resources on this site and the HCV Advocate. If you want to start a support group, there are manuals for how to start one on this site: http://www.hcvadvocate.org/ (http://www.hcvadvocate.org/) Just put "support group" in the search field and you will find lots of info.

Advice: Read about the treatment, but know that everyone is different, and I think it sounds scarier than it is, at least with the new regimens. The only way past the fear is to do what you are doing - jump in. Lots of support here, and if you have any questions, you know who to find us. If your doc prescribes ribavirin, ask about B12 supplementation. Don't take iron supplements unless MD-ordered. Stay active through treatment - it helps. Be proactive about side effect management, especially rashes because if they get out of control, harder to bring under control. Keep your positive attitude that you already have. If you belong to a recovery group, stay close to your peeps. Support group an excellent idea. I looked at it as a  journey of self-discovery - learned a lot about myself. Find ways to bring humor into your life. Those are a few ideas...

Polly,

Lucinda covered it all! I just want to add that it's awesome of you to help out your mom. I was 53 and had stage 4 when my treatment started. It can be done! She will be so relieved to be rid of the virus and you two can heal together.
I also think it's great to try and start a support group. The bond that forms when you connect with others can help you stay strong and also find resources once treatment starts. Keep logging and if mom won't, read to her! lol. I wrote a blog on here about anxiety. It's natural to be scared. And it's smart to learn more - just like you're doing.
Bravo to you and best wishes,
Karen
