Title: Side Effect Free Treatment
Post by: alhenderson on March 03, 2014, 08:20:00 pm
Getting ready to go into my fourth week of treatment. I have Hep C and I am taking
Pegasys Pro Click Interferon, Ribavirin, and Sovaldi. Mainly, just a little dried out but no side effects.

Assuming you are on a 12 week plan, you are 25% done! Hope you are drinking lots of water and moisturize.

I am going to be a body of water, lol.
Also, drinking Gatorade, and juicing some fresh veggies and fruits.
Found a good lotion = Curel Itch Defense, works wonders.

i am now going to start my treatment next week with solvaldi and olysio. i have been on the interferon twice and had to stop due to the side effects. i have been reading everyone comments about their experiences and it seems like this may be the answer for me. i go to cleveland clinic and they were able to file an appeal to get these meds and my copay is only 5.88 per med!!!! my question is, say my hep c is "cured" will i still have the symptoms like fluid retention and extreme fatigue or will all this go away and i will actually feel and look like a normal person? i am on disability right now because of all of this. thanks in advance for your help!

It depends. Assuming those symptoms are related to liver disease, you may have improvement or you may not. It may take awhile before you notice improvement. In some advanced cases, liver damage is improved, but if the damage is extensive, you may still have the health consequences.
Hope your treatment is easy and successful - most people are saying good things about these drugs.

i also have cirrhosis and hep c so i have had my lung(right) and my abdomen drained more than i can count thru out the years and was hoping, and still am hoping that i will be done with all that. i am also very anemic with a blood count that hovers around a 7. i am a swimmer and was swimming about a mile a day and had to stop due to my problem breathing. my lung would get so full, about 80% filled with fluid that i could only do a lap and then i would have to hang on the edge of the pool til i caught my breath.

I will be thinking about you all. I am almost done my treatment. Hopefully in a few months I will have an undetectable blood test for HCV. Everyone is different in how they react to treatment. I did add a ton of fruit and veggies to my diet, and am now a Vegetarian. I also drink lots of water, and some coffee. I do juice at least once a day. Also, try to workout, lol I am a slacker with that.

Al,

Congrats on almost being finished with your Hep C treatment.  What genotype are you?  Which treatment regimen were you on?  When did you go UD during treatment?  And, do let us know how the post treatment blood test results go - which I also hope will be UD.

All the above questions will help people that visit this board compare to their own situations.

Hey Jack,
I am on a 12week combo therapy. Currently taking Pegasys Interferon, Ribavirin, and Solvaldi. Not sure about undetectable, he hasn't tested for that. Will test for it in a few months. I am genotype 1a.

??? Al - Hmmm, I suspect you had a blood test st least every 4 weeks during your treatment, and that a quant HCV count was performed.  I am/was 1a as well, jealous of your 12 weeks! Just kidding, these breakthroughs are friggin' wonderful!  -jack

Forgot the viral load, seemed like such a long time ago. It was high. My
ALT was finally normal, but my platelets, and WBC and such went way low. I was like in the lab like every other week, just checking on platelet count and such. By 2015 they plan on having all oral treatment, with no injections, and even higher cure rate with very little side effects. Now, if we can get the cost down.

Looks like the all-oral ribavirin-free treatment will be approved in October. Amazing.
