Friday, July 25 marks the second annual National African American Hepatitis C Action Day. It is a community mobilization initiative aimed at reducing the high incidence of HCV infection in black communities by drawing attention to this neglected health disparity and promoting education, testing, and treatment.

July 25th, 2014, is the second annual National African American Hepatitis C Action Day. The day is designed to heighten public awareness about the devastating impact of the hepatitis C epidemic on African American communities. African Americans are twice as likely as whites to have been infected with hepatitis C. Death related to the hepatitis C virus is almost double among African Americans compared with non-Hispanic whites.
The National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, Inc., the Coalition on Positive Health Empowerment, and the Harm Reduction Coalition are again cosponsoring National African American Hepatitis C Action Day, a national community mobilization initiative aimed at reducing the high incidence of hepatitis C infection in African American communities by drawing attention to this neglected health disparity and promoting education, testing, and treatment. A toolkit is available to help organizations plan activities around this day.
NVHR strongly supports National African American Hepatitis C Action Day and urges everyone to supports its efforts to increase hepatitis C awareness, testing, and access to medical care and treatment for African Americans.
