Title: NVHR World Hepatitis Day Action Alert
Post by: iana5252 on July 28, 2014, 09:04:51 am
From our National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable (NVHR) friends...

Urge Your Members of Congress to Take Action Today!

Today is World Hepatitis Day, an annual reminder of the fight that remains to battle this global killer. There are an estimated 500 million people living with chronic hepatitis B and C worldwide, and in 2010 the United States ranked 7th globally for the number of deaths attributed to viral hepatitis. World Hepatitis Day should serve to remind us that in a country that claims to have the best health care system in the world, this is absolutely unacceptable.

Today, we urge you to join us in calling your U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators in their Washington, DC offices to remind them that viral hepatitis is an important public health issue for our country, and and an important issue to you.

Please take a few minutes to act today!

Call the Capitol Switchboard -- 202-224-3121 -- to connect to your Representative's and Senators' offices in DC.  When you're transferred, ask to speak with the staff person handling health issues. If they aren't available, leave a message! You can use the following template for your message, but always try to personalize your message.  Let them know why this matters to you!

"Hi, my name is _____ and I live in ____ (city/state).  I would like to ask for (Representative/Senator) ______'s leadership on viral hepatitis by supporting $47.8 million in the fiscal year 2015 appropriations bill for the CDC Division of Viral Hepatitis, cosponsoring the Viral Hepatitis Testing Act, and removing the ban on federal funding for syringe access in the Labor-HHS appropriations bill.
This is important to me because ____.  Thank you for your time."
