Public documents from 2011 show that Pharmasset—the original developer of Sovaldi— estimated a price of $36,000 for the next-generation treatment. However, the drug’s cost was adjusted after Gilead bought out the smaller pharmaceutical company.
Today, analysts say curing the deadly liver disease with Sovaldi and other meds could cost around $100,000 per patient at current pricing.

it is all about the cash for company's, the developers were probably duped at the closing lol seriously though how did the developers respond to the substantial increase even though it was out of their hands at that point? it sure made it harder to get from insurance. is that why they had coupons etc. and the developing of the drug is done with our tax dollars right? just wondering, thanks willie g

Gilead paid $11 billion for Pharmasett, which was a 89% premium over its "market value" at that time. So the owners and executives at Pharmasett did pretty good. Somewhere there is a huge amount of money being made on Sovaldi. In the first 6 months of 2014 the sales of Sovaldi were reported to be $5.8 billion, so Sovaldi has recouped over 50% of the acquisition price! and it also acquired other drugs and products in the Pharmasett portfolio. Of course there have been other costs to Gilead in the process of getting the FDA approval, etc. however they stand to make many multiples of the investment they have made.

thankyou, looks like everybody is happy with thier cash exchange, i knew i was always in the wrong business lol at least there picking up the tab for folks who cant pay for it but in the end they make out bigger and they get to see how thede drugs are really working wille g
