HCV treatment by interferon uses injections, causes flulike symptoms and lasts six months to a year. It cures only 40% to 50% of hepatitis C patients.

But today’s pill-only therapies (Sovaldi, Olysio, etc.) have double the viral cure rates—90% to 100%—in just in 12 weeks’ time and are generally much easier on the body in terms of side effects.
