Title: New Hep C Treatment Costs As Much As A Maserati
Post by: Hep Editors on October 17, 2014, 10:44:26 am
...with $10K in change. The price of a 12-week Sovaldi treatment could also buy you a double-wide mobile home, or feed a thrifty family of four for 11 years.

Harvoni, Gilead's latest drug, is even more expensive.

I just found out that although Unitedheathcare WILL pay for my treatment with Sovaldi they will not pay for Harvoni (as yet anyway, perhaps some months in the future?).
I called Gilead's "Harvoni Support Path" and they said that as long as my household income is under $100,000 the cost to me for a full course of Harvoni will be ZERO dollars.
I downloaded the support path forms and will fax them back next week so time will tell.
More later.

Solvadi was approved late last year and must be combined with another drug such as ribavirin.
There are some serious potential side effects with riba...
Harvoni was approved by the FDA on Oct 10 and is the first of the next generation drugs and is considered to be (for now anyway) the Holy Grail of treatments.
It's a single pill per day drug with cure rates from the middle 90% to 99% of all patients in clinical trials.
In addition, side effects are near zero.
There are several new/er drugs waiting FDA approval but I've been "waiting" ten years and will wait no longer.

And for me with 24 weeks of Harvoni as I am F4 cirrhosis it is $189,000.00

This is after treating with Sovaldi Olysio for 12 weeks which rings up about $150,360.00

But my insurance company loves having me as a customer. I know I love them.
