Hello, Happy New Year. Going to my doc monday for tx discussion. There are now two therapies to choose from and need some advice.
I am G1B, treatment naive, a viral load of <400k, and stage 2 damage. I think the SVR rates are little higher for Viekira Pak vs. Harvoni.
Looking at Pearl III info, Viekira is 100% SVR for women with my profile.

Or Harvoni for 8 weeks. At 8 weeks, the ION-3 clinical data shows 95-96% for women with my profile.
Thank you. Brenda =)

So thoughts? I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Hi,
This is a tough one. I'd love to hear what other people think. I'm leaning towards Viekira Pak. You have to be good at remembering to take pills. If you have Express Scripts, it is your only option, but you won't run into red tape.
Let me know what you and your doc decide.

Hi Brenda,
I would go with the Viekira Pak if I was you given the clinical results. Any percentage advantage is still an advantage!!!
I'd just make sure to set alarms on my cell for times I need to take my medication each day since it's more than one time daily with the Viekira Pak.
Best of luck and keep us looped in, can't wait to hear how your treatment goes and for you tell us you are SVR!

Hi bsmith,
I am Gen 1B, and have completed Sovaldi/Ribavirin and waiting results.
After going thru treatment and been reading on the forum and such, I think if I did not have treatment and the Viekira Pak was approved, I would go for it since 100% looks very good for Naive. The only thing is since you are female, make sure you are not involved in any of the drugs that are contradictory, especially the birth control ones. Harvoni seems to have less side effects, so consider that also.
If I relapse, I have already arranged with the Dr. to immediately put in for the Viekira Pak, with no hesitation. (I am a male)

Thanks everyone for the great responses.
Saw the doc today for the RX. His reco was Harvoni. He said that I was a good candidate for the 8 wk. He said all his patients on Harvoni are having zero to extremely low sides. He called it a phenomenal breakthrough.
Another point he made was that if for some reason I relapsed on the Harvoni, we could use Veikira Pak as a fallback since it's a different formulation.
It's funny how my doctor and I (who've I have seen since he diagnosed me in 2001) were debating 95% vs. 99% SVR when it used to be in the low 70%'s with peg/inter/riba and really lower for G1b. It's unreal really.
GAME ON! He wrote the script. Now it's in God's hands.

I was approved for the Harvoni! whewwwwww huge sigh of relief. The Encompass SP called me today and said I was approved but they have to switch it over to CVS/Caremark Mailorder and they should call me on Monday to schedule delivery. I also got the $5 copay coupon.
Thank you for all the advice and kind words.
