I need some type of pain reliever for a while to help get me thorough my Harvoni Tx. Slept poorly due to feeling like I have a head cold and head ache.
Two or three 325 mg Tylenol should be OK for most with non cirrhosis Hep C, is that right? I took some Peppermint oil in coconut oil today which helped some but I think a Tylenol once in a while would feel better.
I have not taken Tylenol in many years. I don't even think I have any. I'd have to go out and buy some.

Hi Lukey, The best bet is to call your doctor to find out how much YOU can safely take because it varies a little but normally 2000mg a day is ok. I don't like them either, but they can be your friend with the headaches. I take one 325mg... and if doesn't work, I take a second. So far one is doing it. For me the headaches come and go. One day it'll be a headache, the next a weird ache. Its a very strange ride but as long as its working we can do anything for the lengths of these treatments!
It REALLY is in the water. Are you drinking at least 2 liters? Or MORE. If I feel a light headache, sometimes just another bottle of water will do the trick.
As for supplements, you should tell the doctor everything your taking because I think they are still trying to figure out what all will work with Harvoni versus interact with it. I would try to take nothing that they do not approve.

I drink quite a bit of Berkey filtered water and have increased it lately. It does seem to help.
I was dealing with constipation but that seems to be better now, I think because I increased my Magnesium intake, but I take it 4 hours away from Harvoni so I'm hoping I'll be OK with taking it.

Meredith gave you a great answer, which I second. I happen to be allergic to aspirin and derivatives, including ibuprofen, so I really am in a bind especially if I need to reduce swelling, because acetaminophen is not that helpful, except for pain. Like Meredith, I typically take one of the normal dose of two acetaminophen if I have a headache, though I do so with the 500mg dose. When I was on my Hep C treatment, way back yonder a few years' ago that still included interferon, flu like symptoms and headaches were part of the deal, and my PA asked me to limit acetaminophen to no more than 2000mg a day, so there was some concern on her part, and to this day I still try and avoid. I have 500 mg Acetaminophen tabs. I'll try taking 1/2 of one, or 250 mg first, because that will probably work for me.
I don't think I'm allergic to aspirin. Is aspirin better to take than Acetaminophen?
Is it safer for the liver and better for the body?
My gastro's nurse said I could take up to two tylenol a day, which should be more than enough to reduce headaches.

At less than 1000 mg a day, I wouldn't worry much about acetaminophen liver toxicity, and I have heard advice both ways, but it would seem to me that ibuprofen would be safer for the liver than acetaminophen, unless you are prone to bleeding issues (aspirin & derivatives like ibuprofen are blood thinners), so I suggest we let your medical professionals advise you based on your situation, and advise all readers that each of our situations are different, so it is best to get professional advice about any medication and dosage.

Kate, OMG You traded your COFFEE? : ) EWW.. Sorry I cant give up my coffee. I would not be human : )
Lukey, I agree I would definitely talk to someone before taking an aspirin because it can act like a blood thinner I think. I am not sure but ask first. A Tylenol will not hurt you.. its over doing that hurts the liver. Best bet is write down questions as you think of them and put a call into your doctor.

Glad to hear it. Often times, the SFX arise but don't last. Just because you have a headache one day, does not mean you will have one every day. My h/a seemed to go away most all day today and I haven't taken any tylenol yet, but it's good that I have some on hand just in case. I think I'll take one now, just to see if I can get a good night's sleep tonight. I've found that I can usually get by on a very small amount of a pain killing med.

This forum and Gilead, as well as the good people at my gastro office have all been very nice and very helpful. I left her a voice mail and she replied soon and told me it's OK to take some tylenol. I think she said up to 2 doses a day would be OK but I doubt I'd need that much. My headaches have been 1) not too bad, and 2) transient. Water does help. I think it's a detox reaction, because virii are dying in massive amounts, virii that have lived inside me for 32 years. It's no wonder it causes some type of reaction.
I reported this all to Gilead, they appreciate all the info you can give them.

hahaha, no merdith i did not give up my coffee, I worked 7p to 7a for a long time, I can drink coffee with the best of them. I just traded one or two cups (no one would be safe if i gave it up altogether)

I have cirrhosis and my doctors (I have a few of them) have all told me these same things.
Safe: Up to 2000mg of Tylenol in 24 hrs.
Not safe for me: Ibuprofen or other NSAIDS of any kind.
Personally, I understand that everything except Tylenol (Acetaminophen) causes the blood to thin which can aggravate clotting issues in people with impaired hepatic function.
So....Tylenol, yes, up to 2000mg daily.
