Title: Which insurance should I get?
Post by: Johnw8866 on February 03, 2015, 08:47:59 pm
I was just diagnosed with HCV this week. I am in the process of applying for healthcare through the healthcare marketplace. I dont know what type of testing I should expect for the next year, so am unsure of which insurance to go for. Any info would be great but the questions I know I have are:

Will I be having to get any/many imaging done, such as a ultrasound? I had one done when I was at the ER this week.

Will I be visiting a specialist more so than my primary doctor for this?

My main choices are Anthem or Kaiser Permanente, any suggestions in which I would have a better chance in getting approved for the newer drugs for HCV?

In a nutshell the issue I am running into with choosing a policy is im not sure what to expect. I have a policy that max out of pocket (not including my premeium) will be $600 for the year but I pay 15%-20% for most things. On the other hand if I am not going to have to do any surgery or imaging (ultrasound) then I would spend less going with a policy where I pay set prices (averagely $30) for most things.

Any info would be great, Thanks everyone!

It will all come down to your current health and genotype. I can only speak from what I hear, and people in each state are having different experiences. Kaiser in Calif is the worst. I do know that http://www.mysupportpath.com/ (http://www.mysupportpath.com/) knows something about the various insurance plans. Presumably https://www.viekira.com/benefits-verification (https://www.viekira.com/benefits-verification) does too. You might try http://help4hep.org/ (http://help4hep.org/) 877‑Help‑4‑Hep (877‑435‑7443)

Good luck!
