Title: Hey everyone, new here
Post by: scout1123 on February 17, 2015, 03:39:11 pm
Hey guys. I was diagnosed in 2010 with Hep c. I got it from sharing needles when I was a teenager so I have been living with it for at least 15 years. I had a full workup done in 2011 but the VA told me they wouldn't let me start treatment until I lost weight (I'm a size 18, not morbidly obese but could stand to lose a few pounds)

Now, I have a mysterious neck mass that my gp is freaking out about and says it doesn't present like a typical swollen lymph node so I am going to see the ENT about it tomorrow. I've read a lot about how HCV can lead to other problems so I am a little worried it may be something serious, but praying that it isn't.

So I really just wanted to connect with some people who understand what it's like living with this disease

Welcome Scout. Of course you are a little worried - we'll worry with you, although even if it was something hep C-related, likely highly curable.

At first, I was miffed that the VA didn't treat you because of your weight, but then I thought about how hard triple therapy was back then, and maybe this will work out better. The new treatments are not weight-based, and you should be able to get treated. Let us know if we can help you advocate for yourself, but in the meantime, please let us know about what happens re your neck.
