Title: Premera Blue Cross data breach
Post by: Pete on April 13, 2015, 09:23:27 pm
I received my notification today from Independence Blue Cross that "as a former customer of Premera", my personal inforamtion was breached as it was still on record with Premera.  Independence Blue Cross was not involved in the hack.

Considering SS#'s were stolen, that would put all personal assets at risks that use your SS# as part of identification.  I heard just this morning on NPR that many who filed for 2014 tax refunds learned that their refund had already been processed and the refund paid out by the IRS.  Apparently to a fraudulent claim.

Wondering if anyone here has been notified that they were caught up in this and what they are doing to protect themselves from fraud attempts going forward.

Regards,

I am Premera BCBS also. I haven't received my notice yet but did hear about this weeks ago. I haven't looked into it but I believe they will be offering credit monitoring for free.

Always best to file early and electronically so the crooks don't get the chance to steal their returns whether or not you are BCBS

IBC stated in their letter  that I would be hearing more soon.  I'll be sure to share what I learn.  Thanks Lynn for your interest.
