So my husband finally got his test results back and he has a different genotype than I do. :( (I am 1a and he is 3)
The treatment for genotype type 3 is Sovaldi/Riba-He does not have cirrhosis and in fact his liver is in fantastic shape according to our doctor. This is all so bizarre because he has the most aggressive form and yet is liver is fine and I have the "easiest to cure" and I have pretty bad cirrhosis. Go figure right?
His doctor recommended that he wait for a new drug that is buzzing all over Europe that supposedly will clear FDA in about July. This new drug promises to be the next Harvoni for genotype 3 so he is going to wait. I have the name written down somewhere and will post it when I find it
it is called Daclatasvir by Brystol Myers Sqibb. (I did some research on it-this is what I found)

Something I just thought of is cross contamination. Especially for me since I am already on my 3rd week of Harvoni. Obviously I will take every precaution and then some because I cannot afford to not clear this virus.
This is all overwhelming

Although I haven't experienced this, I have seen it. The most likely explanation is that you were each infected separately. As for the progression, it is odd that you are more progressed, esp since men tend to progress faster. Do you drink, smoke, or take meds that might be hard on the liver?
Sounds like your doc is giving you good advice.

Hi! Yes I figured we were infected separately but were both kind o blown away that he was a genotype 3
We both smoke, actually he smokes 3 times as much as I do.
We both quit drinking over 20 years ago
I do not take any meds other than my Thyroid med
He takes Suboxon
Very weird that I have progressed so much more. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with genetics, where my heritage might be more prone. I don't know what to think really.
Thanks to you and an article of yours, I found this site and Harvoni so hopefully I will beat HepC and try to stop more damage from happening.

Although it is possible for a genotype to "switch" within an individual, it is rare and appears to relate to a "superinfection."
Thus:
HCV genotypes switches can occur
• 6 of 14 hemodialysis patients experienced HCV genotype
change after 13-21 months of follow-up
– Genotype switches “may be due to either genotype-specific intermittent
viremic status or viral interference”
• HCV genotype change observed in 19 of 32 hemophiliacs and
were more common in HIV-positive individuals
– Genotype switches could be false hybridizations during line probe assay
or changes in predominant strains during mixed infection
• HCV genotype change in 4 of 15 IDUs (23.3 per 100 personyears
