Hi everyone. I want to share my experience and see if anyone had anything similar. When I first tested the genotyping it came back as genotype 1 detected. I phoned the lab and asked for more specific 1a or 1b and was told that it was not possible to identify at the moment as the virus mutated or one genome didn't dominate another yet. They suggested to have test redone in 1 month. So after 1 month it came back as 1b. Anyone experienced anything like that? Does that mean that virus is relatively new or it can mutate through its life from time to time?

I had a similar result where it could not be determined whether it was 1A or 1B. Eventually I had another test, and it was 1A...
It happens.

Do you have an idea whether it happens due to the virus being new or it can happen long time after virus was contracted as it mutates during its life?

Definitely not related to virus being new.. I think its a test failing.. The viral load was over 1 mil at the time so there was plenty enough of it for a genotyping.

When mine was done VL was 423000 so I was hoping maybe it is a new virus, but probably not...

Hi again Angelina,
That's a wonderfully low VL number, at least compared to mine, lol. Hopefully, you get on the new drug treatments soon. :)

Hi CureSeeker!
Yes that VL was the first diagnosed and then it went up to 723000 before the treatment. I am 1 month on Harvoni now. Prescribed 8 weeks. Hoping for the cure!
Best wishes to everyone!

Sounds like you have a very good shot at the cure! And, a nice short treament period as well. Your a lucky one! :)

;D yeah that short treatment period is actually bothering me. Hope I will reach a cure otherwise I'll be very unlucky :(

You are a very nice and friendly person, Angelina. I couldnt have asked for a better welcome. Think positively.
These forums looked busier than they have turned out to be. Its good you are here to help greet other cure seekers on the journey.
Take care, and kiss that baby for me! ;)

Thanks CureSeeker!
I am kind of thinking positive but have doubts at the same time. :)
Hope your treatment is going well!
