Title: Hep C and hypoglycemia
Post by: Mac on June 08, 2015, 02:26:28 pm
For the past several months on treatment for hep c (with cirrhosis), my glucose test shows 2.5.  This has never been a problem before.  I wonder if it is the liver disease causing it? Anyone else with hypoglycemia?

I've had a few times when I wondered about hypoglycemia,   my Dr has never commented about my glucose being abnormal. I seem to get a little shaky if I work through lunch and don't keep hydrated, noticed dark urine after episodes. An empty stomach and not enough water seem to be the precursor to trouble for me. I keep a Snickers bar around for an occasional quick fix. Never had to do this prior to tx.

Thanks for your response. I bought a glucose tester and will test daily to see what is happening.

The liver does produce/release glucose (usually in the morning) which is what "wakes you up." However, the liver does not regulate glucose levels, as this is the function of the pancreas and insulin.

Hypoglycemia (low blood glucose levels) can occur for several reasons. The most common would relate to diet and not consuming enough carbs  (our body turn carbs in to glucose, which provides our energy).

I haven't read any literature that associates HCV and/or liver disease with hypoglycemia.

I would talk to your doctor about this. You may need to adjust your diet a bit.

Best wishes, Mike
Title: diagnosed FOR HEP C as positive.
Post by: muhammad saleem on June 15, 2015, 08:28:47 am
On 15 April 2015 I got tested for the hep -c as positive. Then I worried very much , my doctor advised me to go for PCR RNA testing and Ultra sound results. The PCR RNA is negative (undetectable) but on the ultrasound report is mentioning size variation in liver by 2 cm. Actually what it happened from the past months I ate meat in very enough quantity with that i started feeling pain in my liver with vomiting and rushed to the doctor, he advised me to take above tests.
Now position is balanced and not feeling any pain with initial intake of medicines   but i am feeling a liter weight  on my breast that is due to size variation. I am much worried about this and want cure this by consulting you. My doctor has said that you don't worry it will reverse after some period of time. I need your expert opinion over this and your advice for which food chart should i adopt as a remedy to problem. My age is 33 years.

Thanks MOTO for your kind reply. My concern is with negative PCR RNA  reports what does this means? Is patient clear of hcv and how should he adopt the routine life.

If your HCV RNA by PCR test is not detected for hep c even if you test positive for the antibodies for Hep c antibodies you do not have hep c.

Testing positive for hep c antibodies mean at some point you had an exposure to hep c you will always test positive for the antibodies.

But testing not detected for the virus means you do not have hepatitis c. I am not a medical person you should confirm this with your doctor.

As far as your routine life that is between you and your doctor. In general maintain a healthy lifestyle as everyone should do with adequate rest, exercise, a healthy diet and drink enough fluids.

Unless you have a medical condition that would need you to have a special diet or restrict certain activities. That would again be best addressed by your personal physician
