AbbVie’s Viekira Pak (ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir; dasabuvir) cured all people with genotype 1b of hepatitis C virus and compensated cirrhosis in a recent late-stage trial. The phase IIIb TURQUOISE-III study gave 12 weeks of the therapy to 60 participants...
All were cured. The most commonly reported side effects were fatigue (22 percent), diarrhea (20 percent) and headache (18 percent).

FDA has issued a warning on October 22.

Viekira Pak is contraindicated in patients with moderate and severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class B & C).
Technivie is not indicated for use in patients with cirrhosis, and should not be used in patients with moderate and severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class B & C).

I am 1b so that makes me very very happy to hear.I do have one question that maybe someone can answer. At EOT how long does it take for the Viekira to leave your system? Thanks
-
I'm sure someone will chime in that knows for sure. I am assuming no riba? Riba is the one that takes 4 or more weeks. Harvoni I know takes about 3-4 days and is supposed to pass very quickly...which is one of the reasons they stress not to miss a dose or two. as for Viekira alone I imagine similar to Harvoni since they are similar acting. Let see what the smart people have to say :)

Half‐Life:
Ombitasvir: 21‐25 hours; Paritaprevir: 5.5 hours; Ritonavir: 4 hours; Dasabuvir: 6 hours
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biological_half-life
The biological half-life or terminal half-life of a substance is the time it takes for a substance (for example a metabolite, drug, signalling molecule, radioactive nuclide, or other substance) to lose half of its pharmacologic, physiologic, or radiologic activity
In other words after a given time the amount of meds in the blood is reduced by half. After the next same amount of time the new amount is reduced by half or 75% of the starting value. Again after the same time increment the new remaining total of 25% of the starting amount is reduced by half leaving 12.5% remaining and having reduced from the starting amount by 87.5% of the initial value
And so on .....
Hope that helps

I understand the half life Lynn.I worked as a lab animal technician with research animals for Florida State University so I'm good with all of that.I just don't know what the half life of Viekira is. :)
-
Bill, now that Lynn has told you the half life of each of the four drugs that together are called Viekira, I presume Ombitasvir, the longest at 21-25 hours, would be key to the answer. After a week, there'd be less than 1% left (and smaller amounts of the other three components of Viekira). -Gnatty

Thanks Lynn and Gnatty,
I need to stop thinking of this as a one drug treatment which is what I have been doing.I have a bit of brain fog right now so I'm not 100% in my thinking. This was more for information sake and doesn't really mean anything in the big picture. Thanks again to both of you.
Knowing your dragon will help you win.

OK didn't know you background not every one here is a lab technician
Or even a rocket scientist lol ;)
Also, others who read later might need the extra definition of half life.

Hi Lynn,
I actually live in Titusville Florida about 8 miles from the space center.I know a few rocket scientists and us lab animal technicians are much more intelligent. :)

Hi Bill
My folks retired to Florida when I was still in high school. I finished high school near Ocala actually Lake Weir if you know the area at all.
Now I work for a large aerospace company in the pacific NW we have lots of Aeronautical engineers here if it ain't broke they will break it so they can design a fix :)

Hi Lynn,
I love Ocala.I think it's the horse farms and the forests up there.I'm going to have to borrow your ASE comment if I can.I've got some friends that won't be ready for that one.LOL
