Title: Are Hepatitis C test results reliable
Post by: allyboo29 on September 04, 2015, 12:03:14 pm
Hi I'm new to this forum, I really need some advice/help understanding my hepatitis C results...about 3 years ago I feared I had contracted hep c so I went and got tested and low and behold I was positive, throughout the next 3 years I had labs done which they were always normal and even got better as time went on...I was trying to get treatment when for the first time in 3 years I was retested and my HCV Antibody test came back reactive. My result was 11.0 with negative being 0.0-0.8/positive 0.9 or greater and then my Hepatitis Viral RNA, QUAN <15 reference range:<15 IU/mL (next line) Not Detected <1.18 reference range:<1.18 log IU/mL.......and then under that it says again not Detected_________now my question is I know I would still have a positive antibody test if I had cleared the infection on my own, however I have read that a not detected result should not be considered a negative result however I've read a lot of stuff that leads me to believe I can safely say I've cleared it....otherwise why would my viral load be not detected 3 years after exposure? The resident Dr that gave me my results had to Google what not detected meant and said it says no further action required and I heard her talking to the actual Dr and they were like so does that mean its dormant or she's not infected anymore...she ended up telling me she wasnt comfortable saying that it wouldn't come back or that I was all in the clear but that that could actually be the case so I'm very confused and I lost my insurance and need some help please please please anyone that can shed some light as to if its gone or what....thanku so much for reading sorry so long but I'm at a loss as to what to do next.....

Hi Allyboo,
I moved your post so it wouldn't get lost in someone else's thread.

The viral load confirms that you cleared hep C.
