Title: Exposure and tests
Post by: Luck14 on October 11, 2015, 09:58:57 am
I had unprotected sex with a female who later I found out to have hep b and c.  She was the one to inform me so I know it's just not a rumour. Anyway I have had 3 hep b panels run and 3 hep c antibody tests run over the last 2years.  Here are my results hbsag-non reactive,  hb cor tot-non reactive, hbsab - reactive.  Anti hcv -non reactive and 5 liver enzyme tests run all normal.  Doc says not infected but I have ruq pain and my bowel movements have been light brown color of peanut butter idk if this is what they mean by pale stool.  My question is I think I may be infected still, how accurate are hepatitis blood tests?  And is a liver biopsy the only way to know for certain?

Sounds like you're negative to me.

If this was all two years ago and you're still testing negative for the surface antigen you sound negative for HBV to me. If you still have concerns keep having the HBV tests run. Liver biopsies are more to determine the depth and degree of damage from HBV - not necessarily a first line tool to DETECT it. The blood tests are plenty accurate...enough that it is not necessary to put yourself through a liver biopsy. If your HBsAg is negative than there is no need for liver biopsy.
