Title: Hep C test result confusion
Post by: notsureconfused on December 20, 2015, 03:41:13 am
Hi, I'm confused about my hep C test results.  I do think I may have had exposure 8 months or more before the test.  This was a standard all-STD test; two tests were done for HCV.  The first only is shown as "Hepatitis C" - both value and range show "Non-reactive" with a result of "Negative."  The second test is called "Hepatitis C Quantitative" - the value is ".01" and the range is shown as NOTHING, just a dash??  The result is "Negative."  Very confused... I went to my doctor and she said I have nothing to worry about, that perhaps there was some "noise" the test picked up??  I even called the lab and they murmured a bit about s/co ratios... but I've never heard of a false-positive HCV quant test?

I would trust your doctor. I don't believe you have hep c.

Normally the test for antibodies is performed then if positive a HVC RNA by PCR would be done at a later date no real point to run both at the same time especially as the HCV RNA by PCR test is more expensive and usually only done to confirm a positive antibody test.

From what I base seen results are either Not detected or as an example less than 15 detected which would be a weak positive for the virus.

Not sure what that second test you had was.

Good luck
Lynn
