Post by: melke123 on February 13, 2016, 07:09:39 pm
My mom was undetected at 12 weeks , unfortunately she relapse when she retested at 3 months. She has genotype 4 and has cirrhosi . She also has a low white cell count Anyone know if there is other treatments she should consider moving forwar . Now that harvoni had failed her I'm beginning to loose hope.

Hi melke123

So sorry to hear about your moms situation.

Unfortunately, there is not a lot of data for those who relapse with Harvoni as the treatment is so new.

The best person to ask is her doctor. As she has cirrhosis I hope she is under the care of a hepatologist associated with a liver transplant center as they are best equipped the help and counsel a patient with advanced liver disease.

There was a newer treatment just approved for hep c that treats several genotypes one being genotype 4.

Here is the link for the prescribing information sheet

http://www.merck.com/product/usa/pi_circulars/z/zepatier/zepatier_pi.pdf

This may be an option for you mom but that is up to her doctor to make that determination.

I just want to add that I have been living with liver cirrhosis for 8 years. With care a person can live many years with cirrhosis as long as hey don't drink are careful with all medicine to include herbal and OTC meds and is followed closely by their doctor and has their recommended follow up testing done.

Good luck to you both
Lynn

Hi Melke123,

Very sorry to hear about your mother. There are new treatments coming out that target GT4.

Best wishes, Mike
