Title: Daclatasvir and sofosbuvir Tomorrow
Post by: Tomcat on March 23, 2016, 06:45:59 am
Greetings all,

I am one of the fortunate few from Australia who has just received my first script of the above mentioned drugs.
And let it be known how eternally grateful I am to be in Australia and allowed access to these drugs at such an affordable price,  something I know many,  many countries are far behind in doing.

I am HIV/HCV 3 and was diagnosed 18 months ago.
Although a newcomer to HCV I have had many side effects to HIV medications and other treatments and am sitting here now excited about saying goodbye to hepatitis but at the same time nervous as all hell about something going wrong.

I would greatly appreciate any words of wisdom and advice.

Drink plenty of water! Get plenty of rest if you need it. Don't forget to take your pills. Stay in touch with others going through treatment - you'll get tips, tricks, sympathy, good advice and be able to share your own knowledge.

Thank you yes,  that is excellent advice.
I came here when first diagnosed and found the forum very helpful.
Once again I will be doing the same.
Water,  no problem as I drink litres a day,  sleep has always been an issue but with HIV I have learnt the hard way how absolutely essential compliance is so no problems there.

You will romp it in, then. All your ducks are in a row. All you need to do now is start! :)

Keep an eye too on David Peiper's blog here - he is in a similar position to you. And aren't we lucky here in Aust to have access to these drugs! So far there have been 3,800 prescriptions written for DAAs in March alone. More than all the treatments Australia-wide fir all of 2015.

Welcome to the forums, Tomcat, and good luck on your treatment journey! I too was Geno 3, and I was cured with Harvoni+Ribavirin last year. Would have much preferred the combo you will be taking since I would have avoided the ribavirin effects that way. But daclatasvir had not yet been approved when I started treatment.

Enjoy the ride :)

Hi Kim,
Thank you so much.
I know these drugs are nothing compared to the old generation and so grateful for that.
Have been taking HIV ARV for almost 20 years now so used to popping my pills on time.
Am so excited as tonight is the night that I start to fight back.
Unfortunately I have had severe side effects to some medication and although I am sure all will go well I am very nervous.
It's like a roller-coaster of excitement versus anxiety.

There have been a few other forum people on the sofosbuvir/daclatasvir combo so far (since it is fairly new). And from what I have heard, it has pretty much the least side effects of anything so far... I think you'll be fine. :)

Well it's 10pm in Sydney and the first pills are down and so far so good.
I hope that all my anxiety will pass and my body kindly accepts these amazing drugs.
Feeling very bloated right now with tonight and tomorrow morning being the real test.

All the best. Try to focus on things other than treatment for large chunks of your day or you'll drive yourself crazy. I know this from experience! ;)
