Title: Very low level
Post by: Ammadzs on April 29, 2016, 09:13:10 am
I have recently tested HCV and found very low level on abbott machine model Architect,

Report says it is 1.86 in initial test and 2nd test after 12 days says it is 2.13
Where cutoff level is 1

Pls guide me in right direction

Regards,
Ammad

Get a test for the hepatitis c virus called HCV RNA by PCR

Those sound like the test for the hepatitis c antibody. About 25% of people exposed to hep c virus are able to beat the virus on their own the rest go on to being chronically infected and will need treatment to eridicated the hep c virus from their blood. Repeated testing for hep c antibodies is of no value.

However once testing positive for antibodies to hep c even if you treat and cure Hep c you will always test positive for antibodies to the hep c virus

Dear lynn,

Thanks for the details,
Should i need to do it on specific machine or any machine can provide me exact details?
laboratory consultant told me that only abbott Architect can detect that much minor virus.

I don't know much about tests. I just know that first patients take a antibody test and if that test is positive they take a test for the virus itself. I know here in the US with the lab my doctor used it is called HCV RNA by PCR. It is a blood test that looks to see if the virus is present in your blood. The antibody test looks for antibodies to the virus your body makes when it tries to fight the hep c virus.

If you take the HCV RNA blood test you will receive a result of not detected which means you do not have hep c or detected and a number which is how much virus there is in one mL of blood which means you do have hep c

I am not familiar with the device you mentioned. I do not know what test you have had performed. Was it a test for the antibodies to the virus or a test for the virus itself?

More importantly what does your doctor say?

Ok I found the abbott machine model Architect, it is the test for antibodies you need the test for the virus you don't know if you have hep c until you have this test
