My recent blood work is showing a lower than normal platelet count 135 000. Is a low platelet count a normal condition when you have HCV? Any input would be grateful. Thanks

What is the condition of you liver?
Low platelets are called thrombocytopenia.
Decreased production of platelets
Platelets are produced in your bone marrow. If production is low, you may develop thrombocytopenia. Factors that can decrease platelet production include:
Leukemia
Some types of anemia
Viral infections, such as hepatitis C or HIV
Chemotherapy drugs
Heavy alcohol consumption
For me low platelets was a result of developing cirrhosis my platelets have been around 80 to 90 but now post treatment have risen to 110. Low platelets are not a serious concern until they get below 50.
Have you asked your doctor?

I have had low platelet count also. Mostly during treatment. After treatment the numbers usually rise. There are a large number of reasons why. Lynn's list shows some. Another is how you deal with the stress of living with the disease. Find ways to reduce the stress of worries. Enjoy the life you have.
Are you in treatment or seeking treatment now? The sooner you are treated the sooner you will be cured. The medicines for HVC work. But they're hard to get unless your liver is badly damaged. The insurance companies can put up a hard fight. Once the virus is gone, it will be easier to go forward.
I recently was tested. I am still undetectable after six months. These are words everyone on this site wants to hear. It only took me nine years, three treatments, and two appeals. The point is that it is possible for everyone to be free of the virus. Never give up. You are worth it. There are many wonderful people on this site who genuinely care.
Best Wishes on your journey

@ Scared9,
I cannot say that I have experience with a low platelet count, as mine was 317 before I started treatment (16 days ago)..(my viral load was only 1,546 as well, and my alt was 17, my ast 15..everything was in range, EXCEPT the issue of the HCV)
I just had my blood drawn Saturday, I expect my numbers to be whacky, as that is what I have read from others.
I hope that you can get tx and go through with it..it is definitely a way to reduce stress, not only on our liver / our bodies, but also, on our minds. Stress is not good in any capacity.
These forums and the people I have come in contact with here, have definitely saved my sanity!
