Here is a link to an article I found in American Family Physicians web page:

Proteinuria in Adults: A Diagnostic Approach

http://www.aafp.org/afp/2000/0915/p1333.html

What I get from this and a couple of other things I have found is there can be an association between Hep B and proteinuria but proteinuria is not that uncommon in patients and has many possible causes.

The article says:
"Proteinuria on initial dipstick urinalysis testing is found in as much as 17 percent of selected populations......fewer than 2 percent of patients whose urine dipstick test is positive for protein have serious and treatable urinary tract disorders."

So this would mean that only for a small minority of patients is proteinuria anything other than a benign condition. That for most it is not serious and they will not need any treatment.

But only by working with your doctor will you be able to find out what is your specific situation. See your doctor, have whatever testing is needed, and go from there.

Best of luck to you
Lynn
