Title: Tested equivocal but non reactive

Hi everyone I recently became pregnant and went for my prenantal blood work my blood test showed equivocal but non reactive for hcv antibodies and my doctor called my house said it was urgent i came in right away and sent for hcv rna pcr but my understanding is non reactive is a good thing? Why would he say it was urgent? Im freaking out i cant sleep i feel numb any advice or tips would be great

I've not heard of a result coming back equivocal AND non-reactive. If it is nonreactive, that is good. If it is equivocal, that is probably going to turn out OK. Sounds like an overly caution doctor who is working hard on your behalf. Sorry he/she scared you, but at least your doc is going the extra mile...I suspect this will work out well in the end. Please let us know. In the meantime, try to assume this is nothing and skip the worry. I know, easier said than done, but how many of us have worried over nothing...

Thank you for the reply it clearly said non reactive on the test he showed me the screen i was just freaking out at why would the doctor flag it as urgent if i was okay

I can't tell you the answer to that, but I do know that docs are like the rest of us - they worry and make mistakes, and sometimes freak out their patients unnecessarily. Often, these are some of the best docs in the end. The ones that ignore stuff concern me more.
