What supplements do you take during your hcv treatment?

I take Milk thistle, Alpha lipoic acid and B12 vitamins.

I took only my prescribed diuretic Spironolactone.

Personally I would avoid any unnecessary anything while on treatment

I am vegan and take B12, D3, D-Mannose, and vitamin K (because my PA said not to take Calcium). All approved by my PA.

I personally avoided all supplements during treatment.
These are new medicines and not all interactions are documented yet.
Meds are powerful enough on their own to do the trick.
Just keep a healthy diet and take lots of water during tx, thats about it.

I agree.

That's what I did.

I begin 8 weeks of Harvoni as soon as the mail order pharmacy gets it in the mail.  I take on a daily basis, a multivitamin for women over 50, two fish oil pills, B12 and Crestor.  I see that Crestor may interact badly with Harvoni.  Anyone else on Crestor before treatment? I am wondering if I should stop taking it now as I will probably start Harvoni in the next 6-7 days.  Waiting on a call back from my doctor...ugh..going on second day now.

I'm sure your doctor will be back to you soon.

Best wishes,

No worries Andrew in general the  less is better is a great idea but it does get trickier with prescription meds.

lol ok andrew ;)

Tlk60

You could also try the Harvoni help line they have nurses available to answer questions

http://www.mysupportpath.com/

Providers and patients can call 1-855-7-MYPATH (1-855-769-7284) for assistance

But as my earlier post said if you doctor knows you are taking Crestor "Your healthcare professionals may already be aware of this interaction and may be monitoring you for it."

So your best option likely still is to find out what your doctor says

Good luck

Thanks again Lynn K....I talked to my doctor's medical assistant and she said my doctor will likely have me contact my primary care to get an rx for another cholesterol medication or have me stop it completely for the duration of treatment (8 weeks). BUT...she said she wanted to check with the doctor first...still waiting for that answer soooooo....I have decided to stop the medication on my own...last dose was Tuesday...I have changed my eating habits and am getting plenty of exercise.  Personally I feel it is best not taking anything while on Harvoni...I want Harvoni to do it's job without any interruptions. :)  Before Crestor my cholesterol levels were just barely over normal limits anyway....I may have done the wrong thing but did it anyway.  hahahaha

Here's my 2 cents on supplements during treatment:  My doctor said in no uncertain terms "NO SUPPLEMENTS".  FT

Hi

While I also agree with FT about no supplements we are talking about a prescribed medicine and WebMD did say not to stop medicine without discussing with your doctor. Your doctors office that is treating you did say to contact the doctor who prescribed Crestor for an alternate cholesterol lowering medication. I believe you should discuss your options for treating your cholesterol while taking Harvoni.

Just my 2 cents

I went to an urgent care today for sinus infection and asked the doctor there her thoughts on stopping the Crestor. She gave me the half life and assured me Crestor had a warning attached to it for patients on Harvoni. Finally got the call late today from my doctor's MA. Doctor said to Stop Crestor.  No other meds prescribed. She said I was on a low dose anyway and levels weren't that high so I should be good without it for the next 2 months. Still no Harvoni in the mail yet so it is a waiting game still. Excited to get on the Harvoni train and get rid of the C!!!!

Glad you got all your answers about Crestor.

Now on to the meds ready to slay your dragon!

TLK ...I stopped all supplements.   One thing I considered was that a lot of doctors and nurses don't really know what does or does not interact with Harvoni. There are so many unknowns out there when it comes to drug interactions...why take the chance. Get rid of the virus, and then resume your supplements. Good luck

Thanks every one....So I guess I will stop all supplements.  I was taking a multivitamin, B12 and fish oil....No one told me to take these but since my sisters were taking them I jumped on the band wagon...hahahahaha

Won't hurt my feelings to only take one pill a day!   8)

I agree that I don't want to take the chance of something getting in the way of the Harvoni....I only get 8 weeks of treatment so I really don't want to chance anything.  I have been told that 8 weeks is plenty since my viral load is below the required limit for the 12 weeks so yipee!!!  One pill a day and hopefully no Hep C after 8 weeks!!!
