I was diagnosed with Hep C in 2001, didn't even know what it was when told. I do now!! I start my Harvoni treatment this Friday Oct. 7th. 12 week treatment which will end on Dec. 31.. Hopefully will start the new year free of this dark cloud and be able to put away my umbrella. I'm a 64 year old veteran, drafted in 1972 for beautiful SE Asia. Performed my duty and returned to the world and put it behind me. Married for 33 wonderful years, lovely wife, daughter and a grandson who is the light of my life. Enough of my history..
Thanks to the VA and a great liver specialist, I can now, hopefully rid myself of this virus. I am told I'm a good candidate for this treatment, healthy, in good shape for my age, never drank, but still smoke cigarettes, eesh!!
I will admit, I'm a little anxious about side effects, etc. but am as ready as anyone could be to get on with it. Thanks to this forum and 15 years of living with the knowledge of having the virus, type 1, I return to my specialist tomorrow with pages of questions and to receive my first 2 weeks, of Harvoni. Hope she has scheduled a good amount of time to talk.. :)
I'm going to continue to post here during my journey and would like to thank all of the very kind, sincere people who post in here. and the moderators (Iporterrn, I hope you realize how much you help.. a kind soul) I'm ready to go to war again, albeit, a little longer in tooth. lol.. Thanks again.. jakelin..

2nd day/only 7 weeks and 5 days to go.. first day felt like I had a mild case of the flu, not intolerable, stayed hydrated and really only felt mild nausea which some crackers and water resolved. I take mine a 6:00am and today am feeling kind of cold in my arms, still early and hoping my body adjusts to medication soon, but again, tolerable. I keep thinking how wonderful it will be to rid myself of this virus. Life is good!!

Good morning, Jacklin and welcome to the forum! You'll find a lot of great info and support here. And welcome to the Harvoni Train -- my ride was very uneventful and the time flew by w/o any significant side effects. Hopefully your journey will be as enjoyable as was mine. It's a great feeling to be on that path to SVR, isn't it?

Thanks, I've read a lot of your posts and appreciate your reply. Like the way you think.. I was mistaken in my original post, I only need 8 weeks treatment, not 12 weeks. Today was my 2nd day, so only 7 weeks and 5 days to go. :) Funny, I take my pill at 6:00am and feel pretty good for about 6 hrs. then feel a little flu like. nothing intolerable by any means. I'm almost 65 and am raising my 13 year old grandson, so were looking forward to me having more energy to keep up with him. Thank you again for your reply, some of you are doing really great work and I'm happy to have found this forum, relieves a lot of anxiety for many people.. Take care..
