Title: suppresed immune system harvoni
Post by: 1952brad on October 19, 2016, 04:53:09 pm
Just wondered if anyone has information on harvoni or generic which I got from India, having side effect of making one more susceptible to virus, colds flu, etc.  I have been on treatment generic from India for 6 weeks and am nervous about being in crowd situations.

Hi Brad,

I am not aware of any increased susceptibility to colds and flu etc. during treatment, no.
It's logical enough to wonder, though, isn't it - given the transformation your immune system is no doubt going through as it tries to adjust after the onslaught it's been subjected to?
It is understandable that you might be a bit anxious about 'contamination' etc.
Many of us are, or were, during treatment.
A bit of caution here and there if you're feeling anxious won't do any harm.
Trust yourself, and follow your instincts.

Anyway - Hoping that your treatment is progressing well.
You should be well on the way to recovery by now!

Best wishes,
A.

Brad, FWIW, I had a weakened immune system since 1971, so I used to get many colds, etc., and even got bacterial bronchitis about a year before I started Harvoni. During treatment I didn't avoid crowds but I didn't get a single cold or other illness. Best of luck to you. -Gnatty

I don't get many colds either before or after treatment.

I haven't really seen anything about Harvoni having a negative effect on the immune system.

Good luck with treatment.
