Hi
I am normally OK with the side effects (major issue has been the itch and feeling tired sometimes... but the freakin itch is the worst) but lately my stomach (I always take my medicine with food) has been all over the place and concentration has been difficult.... plus the irritability has been horrible I stopped talking to people because I cant even stand myself... has anyone been through this?
Week 8 (out of 12) this week... almost there.

Not me personally but a lot of people experience riba rash and or riba rage often enough they have nick names.
As far as the itching I have heard people say oatmeal soap and oatmeal bath soaks can help and some folks used Benadryl but you should check with your doctor about any medicines or if they have any additional suggestions to help.
Best I can say is hang in there for a few more weeks and you can put this in the rear view mirror
Good luck

I've been lucky in term of side effects thus far. I'm 21 of 24 weeks of VP/Riba now, so far so good. After an slight drop in hgb in the first few weeks, it came back into normal range and has stayed there ever since.
I tend to get dry itchy skin in the winter. Best thing I've found is Cortizone-10 skin cream with aloe. The stuff works amazingly well.
Good luck,
Pete

Thanks, my hgb dropped but almost nothing and is getting back to normal levels so that is fine... I wil talk to the doctor because I am also getting rashes in my face.
Its not that much of a problem really, if it cures me I will take it... even the irritability.

Riba is the worst med out there. I did the old peg interf +riba 12months. Lost 40lbs and the depression set in about month 7. Never did riba by itself but I've heard that it's effects are like cemo. Felt like death for sure!
Did you try just harvoni first? My sister just finished after they tried riba-combo first. She couldn' t take it so just H. She is finished after 12wks and g1 HVC free!
-
Harvoni is not an option in Mexico yet, right now is my stomach, I started sunday with a burning sensation that ended in nausea, couldnt eat and a very upset stomach... Dr prescribed Dexivant which help a little bit with the burning and therefore the nausea... so its getting better.

hi napo
I was on same treatment and exp. the rash within the first week I was told to up my water in take and use aveeno... for me this worked... def pay attention to the amount of water your drinking because it does help with the sides
now thinking about it I was more tired then I actually thought... I functioned ok for most part all thru work did have some brain fog...lack there of concentration n when I came home I layed down on the couch and slept for lil... I did have some riba rage but not to the point you are expressing... what really got me was the riba cough.... and the heart palpitations...
talk to your nurse thru the vp and talk to your dr...see what they say.. good luck.. and just remember easch day past is one day closer to end of treatment...
I go for my 12 week bloodwork Christmas eve... I'm a basket case but praying hard..
keep posting

p.s are you eating yogurts???
-
i am under " started vp & riba 8 a.m this morning.
-
So I followed your advice and started drinking more water, we'll see how it goes... I dont particularly eat yogurt but I do have them once in a while...
I havent had the cough, the itch is getting better and the mood also... just the stomach and I still have some rashes (in my face mostly) tomorrow will be the end of the 9th week, so 3 more weeks.
-
I remember feeling nauseated on VP/riba. They cut back my riba dosage and things went back to normal. I particularly struggled with high acidity foods, you might want to see if they affect you also. I love Mexican food and couldn't eat a lot of it - which would suck for you, living in Mexico as you do! :)
Good luck, you're getting close to the end.
-
I finally got a hold of the doctor, turns out he had Dengue... only in Mexico I guess... he prescribed Tecta and Almax for the stomach and at least the burning sensation is better.
And I am sorry but I literally cant stay away from Mexican food :) which it is a problem I agree, everything has some sort of spice. Tastes good you just regret it later.
-
Glad you are feeling better. :)

Napo
how have you been feeling???
I remember stomach being somewhat off and for me what helped was eating more?? weird... I would eat yogurt...cottage cheese etc... that worked for me but always temporary fix ... my dosage of 1200 was never reduced and hearing when I was going thru treatment that most had reduction why my dr never did...I don't believe I ever got a straight answer from him either...
how much more time till end of treatment???

Hi
I actually completed my treatment 10 days ago (more or less), I just got the results this morning, is undetectable after 12 weeks so all is good! I just need to wait for another 6 months and do the viral load test again...
last weekend I had a really upset stomach but the dr. prescribe something and it got better, I dont have the itch as much but I still have a horrible rash in my face I guess is a matter of time.
So far so good! I remember you were taking your 6 month test this month right? how did that go?
Happy Holidays.

Hi I've just joined on here and this is my first post, but anyway I've just started on same as you I'm on to my 3rd day and all is good so far. Just try hang in there and do some searching on Google to see what has worked for other people who has or is going through the same treatment (I'll do some searching myself and let you know) when did you start noticing your first side effects?
Take care now and chat soon.
Ps I love this forum.Thanks!!

Could I ask if anyone noticed more sensitivity in their right hand side? I usually get the odd little twinge but since starting my med's I've noticed it's more sensitive, am I imagining this ?
-
Never had anything specific to just one side Irishgirl- but who knows I might not have missed it with so much else going on!
Did have the skin itch aka 'creepy crawlies' but hang in there Napo it is all worth it. Do remember to avoid the sun. That is a sure way to get a rash with riba.
