Title: ALT - please please read.
Post by: Hev70 on November 28, 2017, 10:49:25 am
Hello everyone and thanks for taking the time to read if you did.

I am currently undergoing blood tests for hep so not 100% if I have it as of yet however one of the main concerns of my doctors at the minute is a severely elevated level of ALT in a standard liver function test. Just wondering if anyone else has had this?

Thankyou.

Hi, Hev70. As you can see in my sig file below, my ALT had gotten considerably above normal by the time I started treatment. Yes, hep C is a possible cause for a severely elevated level of ALT. There are many other causes, including vigorous exercise! You don't say whether any of the other tests in your liver panel were way out of range, but here's a web page that lets you see how your doctors are working toward a diagnosis:

Please feel welcome to post other questions as you go along.

Usually for those with hep c ALT and AST are elevated but only slightly. As Gnatty has said there are many possible causes for elevated ALT hoping your doctors find the cause and that it is a simple benign reason.

Here is a link to more information about high ALT
