Title: Just started Harvoni
Post by: rhpues on December 15, 2017, 04:30:57 pm
I just started Harvoni yesterday......My tests showed some liver damage but not that bad....I am not sure how I got hep c...I think it happend about 1974 when I had a motorcycle accident and I got a lot of blood.  I do have a question, do others have memory lapses?  Sometimes I just can not figure out what to call a simple item lol.  As I said I think I got this in 1975 soooooo  I think I had all my life...........my question is after I am cured, if I am cured will I feel different?   Thanks for any answers in advance

Welcome, rhpues. Yes, "brain fog" is common with HCV. I had the exact same problem you did. Getting rid of the HCV definitely helped me find words more quickly. In fact, because I got the desirable Harvoni side effect of extra energy (not everyone does -- some people feel more tired during treatment), my brain was amazingly keen beginning just hours after I swallowed that first orange pill.

Getting cured will most likely result in your feeling better. Generally, the worse off someone was before treatment, the more dramatic the improvement. But don't expect everything to be 100% better, especially not right away. Any medicine able to eradicate HCV is strong stuff, which can confuse the heck out of an immune system. Some people had to wait a year or more after being cured before they saw major progress. And, as with any medicine, a few people's immune systems stayed confused. If you do run into troublesome side effects, let us know; we may have suggestions based on personal experience or the experience of others who have posted here.

In case your doctor didn't stress this, stay well hydrated while you're on Harvoni. Aim to drink around 1 ounce of fluid for every two pounds you weigh (so if you weigh 160, consume ten 8-ounce glasses per day; if you weigh less than 128, you might still want to aim for eight 8-ounce glasses/day). All fluids count.

Best wishes for an easy ride,

Gnatty

Hi rhpues;

I just finished my first month of Harvoni and brain fog is still there but I have been relieved of hip/knee joint pain since about 2 weeks ago. I used to drive for 30 minutes and when getting out of car it was very painful standing up. Now that is gone so I attribute that benefit to the meds for sure. I feel more energy too but since I live in NE PA and I do not like the winter cold and cloudy days (need sunshine), there isn't much for me to do outside so I can't tell how much of a boost I've been given. Don't know how I got it either but it doesn't matter as long we are on the right meds to get cured. Take care, everyone here is great...:o)

Hi rhpues,

I started harvoni nov. 17th and am on day 33 finished. between the 3rd and 4th week, I started feeling really good, more awake, naps on days off didn't appeal as much and I was doing 2 naps and sleeping full night before. I feel more energetic, I am hoping it lasts after finishing harvoni, my last day is Jan 11, I also think my Gerd has cleared up, haven't had heartburn in about 2 weeks, unless I indulge in too much chocolate. lol, Drink lots of water and wishing you the best.

Jeanne

Hey hey. I just started 2 days ago. Little nausea but I'm drinking tons of water to keep the headache away. I smoke cigs and they taste strange now. Maybe that will help me quit. I do have a bunch of symptoms from my hep. Fluish all the time especially if I worked out at all. Brain fog. Joint pain. Tired. Liver pain and I've only been infected around 2 yrs. Let's keep each other posted on how things are. So far so good for me. I'm pretty good at handling pain and stuff though. Oh and I Chase around a toddler which I can't wait for more energy after treatment. Hope your treatment goes well.  Water!!!

Sigh I wish I could nap. Lol. I'll lay down when my 1 yr old does but that doesn't last long. Lol. Omg I don't have patience either but it will go fast. Today will be my 3rd day. I just drink a bunch of coffee to stay up and water and juice. I'm on an 8 week treatment. How about u? I mean it's only day 3...I thought I was going to be so sick. I was so scared I shook before I took my first one. But I'm ok and if we just stay positive I think everything will go smoothly
