Post by: Scared123 on February 22, 2018, 10:56:30 am
This is hard for me to discuss so please don't judge.... gosh This is super embarassing... My fiance hep c and without thinking we had anal sex. I noticed alittle blood afterwards and now I am uneasy. He is currently on his 2 month of harvoni. I dont know why I was so stupid. I have been tested and was negative. Now I am very worried I may have exposed myself. What are the odds and what should I do

Hep c is not considered to be an STD per the US CDC. There is a small risk for those who engage in rough sexual practices, those with multiple partners and in the presence of HIV. For those who are in this situation the CDC does recommend the use of barrier protection ie condoms. Anal sex would count as a rough sexual practice so it would probably have been safer to use a condom in this case.

The CDC does not suggest the use of barrier protection for long term monogamous couples. There have been many folks here who have been with their partners for decades and one has hep c but the other does not.

If your boyfriend has been treated for 2 months his viral load is likely not detected so while there may possibly be a very small amount of the virus in his blood it is a very very small amount which greatly reduces the risk of transmission.

Hep c infected blood must enter the blood stream of an uninfected person through an open wound. An open wound would be a fresh, wet, weeping wound and not a minor scratch or a wound that is hours old. So his blood would have to enter your blood stream.

So with all that said you are for all practicable purposes at near zero risk for having contracted hep c.

I seriously doubt you are at risk especially considering your b/f is on treatment. If you are concerned wait at least 12 weeks and have the antibody test done but I would be very surprised if you contracted hep c in this instance.

Best of luck to you
