Title: Skin abrasion on finger came into contact with blood
Post by: jimmykomo on April 24, 2018, 02:13:06 pm
I was helping out during an accident and had my hands covered in blood. But before I was able to wash my hands I scraped the back of my middle finger (on the joint closest to fingernail) against the blood-stained concrete. The abrasion was pinkish/raw but I don't believe it was bleeding.

I understand the chances of the injured person having Hep C is quite low, but assuming that they were positive, how much at risk am I?

Hep c infected blood must enter your blood stream. My best guess as a layperson and not having been with you at the time to see your scrape if you did open your skin to the point of bleeding there may be a small theoretical risk. I doubt you are infected but for peace of mind you could have a hep c antibody test at 12 weeks post this event. Then you will know for sure if you need any further testing and treatment.

Good luck
