Title: Help with Lab results
Post by: tmf2 on May 23, 2018, 07:00:07 pm
My Dr said enzymes were high. To me they look good (1year EOT.) I'm I missing something?

Total Bilirubin     1.2 mg/dL

Direct Bilirubin    0.3 mg/dL

Aspartate Amino Transf (AST/SGOT)  36 U/L

Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT/SGPT)  22 U/L

Alkaline Phosphatase  72 U/L

Found this different labs have different scales

https://www.emedicinehealth.com/liver_blood_tests/article_em.htm#normal_levels_of_ast_and_alt

“Normal levels of AST and ALT may slightly vary depending on the individual laboratory's reference values. Typically the range for normal AST is reported between 10 to 40 units per liter and ALT between 7 to 56 units per liter. Mild elevations are generally considered to be 2-3 times higher than the normal range.”

“For adults over 18, normal total bilirubin can be up to 1.2 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl) of blood. For those under 18, the normal level will be will be 1 mg/dl. Normal results for conjugated (direct) bilirubin should be less than 0.3 mg/dl. Men tend to have slightly higher bilirubin levels than women.”

“The normal range is 44 to 147 international units per liter (IU/L) or 0.73 to 2.45 microkatal per liter (µkat/L). Normal values may vary slightly from laboratory to laboratory. They also can vary with age and gender.”

If your doctor said this I would speak with them to find out what they mean by saying your liver enzymes are above normal.

Thanks Lynn,
He may have been looking at a prior blood test as this recent one looks within normal ranges  from everything I've seen,
